How do I watch online movies and TV from the library?
JCPL patrons can access a selection of feature films, documentaries and television series through our Hoopla Digital and Kanopy service.
What can I use to watch online movies and TV?
Hoopla and Kanopy offer a downloadable app for many smartphones and tablets. Visit the app store on your mobile device and search "Hoopla" or "Kanopy" to download.
You can also stream video on a desktop or notebook computer directly from the Hoopla or Kanopy websites.
Can I download movies and TV to watch without an internet connection?
Hoopla videos can be downloaded to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets for the duration of the three-day checkout period. Look for the "Download" link on the item details page after checkout.
Hoopla content cannot be downloaded to a personal computer, but can be streamed. Kanopy only offers streaming service.
How do I set up an account to watch online movies and TV?
Create an account with your library card number and email address at the Hoopla or Kanopy websites. The username and password you create during the registration process can be used on the website and mobile app.
How much do downloadable videos cost to check out?
There is no charge for downloadable or streaming video titles. They are automatically returned at the end of the three-day loan period.
How many downloadable video titles can I check out?
You can check out up to ten (10) titles from Hoopla every month across all content formats. Titles can be returned early, but this will not affect your checkout limit. Checkout limits automatically reset to ten (10) titles on the first day of each month. You may borrow up to thirty (30) tickets worth of titles from Kanopy per month.
How long can I keep downloadable video?
Downloadable movies and TV checkouts last for three days. At the end of the three-day loan period, you may check the title out again.
